I welcome you all very warmly to this West Africa Regional Ministerial Conference. We are here to discuss the future of Africa’s youth and how we will create jobs for them. The attendance of so many Ministers is a clear indication that your Governments pay great attention to youth unemployment. I am delighted we have so many young people in this auditorium. We are here for you: you are the future.

Thank you very much Ambassador Quinn, my dear friend; Professor Swaminathan; the Board members and staff of the World Food Prize Foundation, for all the great work you do. And congratulations as you celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the World Food Prize.
04/10/2016 - Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, urged African countries to compete in global value chains, as rising wages in China open new opportunities. In a Keynote speech delivered at the FT 2016 Africa Summit on Monday, Adesina argued that African countries must invest in critical infrastructure such as roads, ports and rail, aviation and ICT to take advantage of the region’s abundant labor and lower wages to attract light manufacturing. Success, however, will depend on putting in place sound industrial development policies.

I wish to thank Bill Gates for his thought-provoking speech. Bill, you and your wife, Melinda, are extraordinary human beings: you care deeply about people. And as you always remind us “every life has equal value”. Your compassion, humility and commitment to improving the lives of others are inspiring for every one of us – even as we tackle one of the greatest challenges facing our world today: malnutrition.
