Integrity and Anti-Corruption

The centre piece of the Bank’s latest effort to improve the continent's investment climate and reduce risk of fraud and corruption is the creation of an Integrity and Anti-Corruption Division (IACD) within the Office of the Auditor General.  The AfDB has designated IACD to:

  • Investigate allegations of fraud and corruption in Bank Group activities and staff misconduct;
  • Assist regional member countries to detect and deter fraud and corruption in Bank Group activities; and
  • Create anti-corruption and fraud awareness among staff.

Established in November 2005, the IACD became operational in June 2006 and commenced investigations in January 2007.

With the introduction of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption function, the Bank has expressed  its intention to further position itself as the centre of excellence for good governance and a leader in  anti-corruption efforts on the continent.

The IACD Standard Operating Procedures document is based on existing policies and standards developed by the Bank and the Uniform Framework for Preventing and Combating Fraud and Corruption established by the IFIs.
