Human and Social Development Department (OSHD)
The Human and Social Development Department (OSHD) comprises OSHD 1, 2, and 3, responsible for poverty reduction and social protection, for health, and for education, respectively.
In education, the department 1 has been promoting equitable access and quality in primary and secondary education primarily by building infrastructure and supporting teacher training. It has collaborated with the Departments of Water and Sanitation (OWAS) and Infrastructure (OINF). More recently, OSHD 1 has shifted its focus to science and technology in tertiary education and high-level vocational training. In health, OSHD 2 supports member countries working to improve their public health services.
Social protection projects promote equity and sustainability for the most vulnerable people, including recently demilitarized former combatants and thus collaborates with OSFU. Poverty reduction projects provide support for economic empowerment and income generation for the poor, and pay particular attention to women.
