Anti-Corruption Strategy

In order to prevent and mitigate the harmful impact of corruption on the economic development and social progress of its member countries, the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has adopted a four point anti-corruption strategy which is:

  • Preventing corruption in AfDB activities ;
  • Mainstreaming corruption issues in AfDB activities;
  • Helping Regional Member Countries (RMCs) that request assistance; and
  • Participation in regional and global anti-corruption initiatives.

The Bank adopts a zero tolerance policy against fraud, corruption and misconduct and undertakes investigations of fraudulent and corrupt practices through the Integrity & Anti-Corruption Department (IACD).

The four-way approach of the AFDB to tackle corruption should be emulated by all African countries especially the preventive approach, it will achieve a great percentage of the result in the fight against corruption.

The participation of the AFDB in this matter will go a long way in modelling financial integrity for africa both in the corporate and political affairs.
