Integrity and Anti-Corruption
The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Department (IACD) is the centre piece of the Bank’s effort to improve the continent's investment climate and reduce the risk of prohibited practices such as fraud and corruption in the Bank and Bank-financed projects. The AfDB has designated IACD to:
- Investigate allegations of prohibited practices such as fraud and corruption in Bank Group activities and related staff misconduct;
- Assist regional member countries to detect and deter fraud and corruption in Bank Group activities; and
- Create anti-corruption and fraud awareness among staff.
Established in November 2005, the IACD became operational in June 2006 and commenced investigations in January 2007.
With the introduction of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption function, the Bank positions itself as the centre of excellence for good governance and a leader in anti-corruption efforts on the continent.
In April 2010, the Bank fine tuned its organizational structure, which resulted in the separation of the Bank’s investigative capacity from its audit function. The Integrity and Anti-Corruption Division was upgraded to an independent department with direct links to the Bank President and the Board. The restructuring reflects the Bank’s desire to strengthen the integrity function in the context of its fast-growing sovereign and non-sovereign operations. The structural change will help promote tighter adherence to the highest standards of corporate governance and integrity both within the Bank itself and in the execution of Bank projects.

Excellent initiative. But it's an initiative that should be assessed in its difficulty.
Familiar with the fight against corruption in Africa, I'm sure it's a long-term task. So We wish success to this new department.
