Fernando Leonardo Hernàndez

Dr, Fernando Leonardo Hernàndez, a Chilean national, is Lead Economist in the PREM Network, Economic Policy and Debt Department of the World Bank, since January 2009. He holds a BA and a Masters’ Degree in Economics from Catholic University of Chile, a MA in Economics and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Columbia University, New York. Before joining the World Bank Mr. Hernández was at the Central Bank of Chile, where he occupied several positions: Deputy General Manager (2005-2008), Principal Economic Advisor to the Governor (2003-2005), Principal Economic Advisor in the Financial Policy Division (2002-2003), and Senior Economist in the Economic Research Division (1998-1999). From 2000 to 2002 he was a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and from 1993 to 1997 he was an Economist at the International Finance Division of the World Bank.
He was professor of the Catholic University of Chile’s Business School (1990 to 1993) and has taught at the Economics Institute of the same university. Mr. Hernández was a member of the Economics and Business Studies Group of the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (Conicyt) in Chile during 2003-2007. He has published many academic papers in journals and books specialized in economics and finance.
