Vinaye Dey Ancharaz

Dr Vinaye Ancharaz is a senior lecturer at the University of Mauritius, and currently, Head, Department of Economics and Statistics. He has researched and published in the area of international trade, more specifically on trade liberalization, FDI, and regional integration issues, in important academic journals, including the Journal of African Economies and the European Journal of Development Research. More recently, his research interest has focused on EU-ACP trade relations, trade in services, CGE modelling of trade policy, and Africa-China economic relations.
Dr Ancharaz is the team leader of the Multidisciplinary Centre of Excellence in International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of Mauritius and director of the MA Economics program. He has received a number of research grants from organizations such as the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and the World Bank Institute. In addition, he has authored several reports commissioned by the AERC, the UN Economic Commission for Africa, the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development, the African Development Bank, and the World Bank. He has consulted with the World Bank, the AERC, the UNDP and various local organizations, notably the National Economic and Social Council in the context of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) exercise. He holds a BSc (Hons) in economics from the University of Mauritius and MSc and PhD degrees in international economics from Brandeis University, USA, where he was a Fulbright scholar.
Dr Ancharaz has previously worked as an economist in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, Mauritius, and as a research assistant at the Centre for International Development at Harvard University.
