AfDB Records 36 per cent increase in Loan and Grant Commitments

The AfDB Group made approvals of almost USD 8.5 billion in 2011, which represented a 36-percent increase on 2010 approvals which totaled approximately USD 6.2 billion.

The largest area of operations in financial terms was infrastructure, accounting for just over 38 percent of loans and grants, followed by multisector loans and grants which came to almost 21 percent of the total.
African Economic Outlook 2012-Jobs for youth key to Africa’s continued economic growth and social cohesion
- Today, youth represent 60 percent of the continent’s unemployed, and of these 40 million youths, 22 million have given up on finding a job, many of them women.
- “Youth employment is an investment in the future. It contributes to reducing poverty, wealth creation, well-being and social cohesion”
AfDB publishes major labour force statistical guidebook

The guidebook deals with the concepts and definitions of the economically active population (EAP); presents methods for analysing data from labour force surveys, from descriptive analysis used in the production of a survey report to analysis of labour force structures and trends that are particularly useful in analytical studies; and discusses methods for assessing the quality of a labour force survey.
