As one of the main implementers of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) in Africa, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will host the 2011 CIF Partnership Forum in Cape Town, South Africa from 24-25 June 2011.

AfDB Vice President, Bobby Pittman, will co-chair the event and welcome over 400 delegates from recipient countries (including 15 African nations), donor countries, other multilateral development banks, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.

The Program at a Glance

This year’s forum features a series of break-out sessions on private sector engagement in mitigation and adaptation investments, scientific updates and guidance on prioritizing actions, climate modeling, and the development of local, clean technology manufacturing industries.

Africa at the 2011 Forum

African delegations from Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tunisia will attend to share experiences with fellow CIF pilot countries. Burkina Faso, the DRC, Morocco, Mozambique, and Zambia will also be there for the learning and to present CIF investment plans and projects for approval at closed CIF committee meetings coupled with the forum.

Key players in the African clean energy sector, as well as leading authorities on African ecology and climate issues, will participate in panel discussions and lend their technical expertise to the proceedings.
