Uganda - Country Assistance Evaluation 1996-2001 (1.8 MB)
Abstract: This Report evaluates Bank Group assistance to the Republic of Uganda since its operations started there in 1968, with particular reference to the period which started in 1986 when President Museveni came to power. Between 1962 when it became independent and 1971, Uganda enjoyed relatively good economic performance. But from 1971 onwards, the country was subjected to severe economic mismanagement, political instability and a civil war. During this period, much of its infrastructure was destroyed and the economy virtually collapsed. All these changed with the ascension to power of President Museveni in 1986. He established a stable political order and began a series of economic reforms. The Bank Group played an active role in the process of rehabilitation and reform.
