Tunisia: Railway Network Improvement in Sfax Region (839 KB)

Abstract: This abbreviated project performance audit report (PPAR) concerns the Railway Network Improvement Project in Sfax Region. The project, the total cost of which was estimated at UA 22.86 million, was identified and prepared by the SNCFT, and appraised by the Bank in February 1983. Its financing via a UA 11 million loan was approved in June 1984. The loan became effective sixteen months later, and the project was completed on 30 June 1993, eight years behind schedule.

Tunisia: First Agricultural Line of Credit to ` Banque Nationale D`Agriculture` (BNA) (3.7 MB)

Abstract: The present project performance audit report (PPAR) deals with the first agricultural line of credit to the Banque Nationale Agricole de Tunisie (BNA) which the ADB granted a loan of UA 18 million in 1985. The purpose of the loan was to contribute towards the achievement of food self-sufficiency. Its immediate objective was to develop agricultural production in order to meet the domestic demand and enable promoters to earn substantial revenues.

Tunisia: Mahdia Rural Development Project (5.0 MB)

Abstract: This abridged project performance audit report (PPAR) aims at the post-evaluation of the MAHDIA Rural Development Project in Tunisia, whose identification and preparation were carried out by the National Agricultural Studies Centre (CNEA) of Tunisia in 1984. The project was in line with the Vith Five-Year Economic and Social Development Plan (1982-1986) which forecast an increase of agricultural production at an annual rate of 5 per cent, stabilization or even reduction of staple shortfalls and a cut in intersectoral income disparities, with a view to reducing rural exodus.

Tunisia: Rural Electrification Project (Electricity IV) (273 KB)

Abstract: The rural electrification project (Electricity IV), is part of a series of actions launched in 1976 by the Tunisian Government and STEG; on the basis of an agreement between the two parties, the Government included in its successive development prograrmmes (Vth and VIth Plans), as a priority, the integrated electrification of the country. Commissioned to implement part of the energy (electricity and gas) component of the plans, STEG carried out the necessary actions which led to the implementation of the following projects co-financed by the Bank: (1) rural electrification of the governorates of Sfax and Gafsa in the south of Tunisia (1978); (2) rural electrification of the governorates of Gabes, Gafsa, Tozeur, Medenine and Tatouine (1981); (3) urban electrification (1984); (4) rural electricity IV (1989), subject of the present abridged audit performance report; (5) rural electricity V (1993).

Tunisia: First Lines of Credit Granted to Five Development Banks (11.6 MB)

Abstract: This Project Performance Audit Report (PPAR) concerns the granted by the African Development Bank (ADB) to five Tunisian Development banks (BNDT, BTKD, STUSID, BTEI and BTQI)). The first three lines of credit were granted to BNDT in December 1984, June 1988 and July 1990 and the remaining banks four development banks were granted lines of credit in Mrch 1988.

Abstract: "This study forms part of the medium-term programme recommended by the Evaluation Division for the post--evaluation of completed projects. For the first part of this programme it was decided to focus on lines of credit and irrigation projects, the choice being made from among completed projects. The Medjerda Valley Development Project in Tunisia which was the first irrigation project to be financed by the Bank in 1968 meets the criterion. "
