Uganda: Equator Road Project (3.4 MB)
Abstract: This Project Performance Audit Report (PPAR) reviews the Equator Road Project in Uganda for which a Bank loan (No. CSIUG/TR,781007) of U.A. 5.0 million and a Supplementary Loan (No. CS/UGITRI78/-83/007) of U.A. 2.59 were approved in November, 1978 and December, 1983 respectively. The Project, which was VV formulated in the context of the country’s road network development, was aimed at improving the then existing route of the Equator road to an all-weather standard in order to provide good riding quality and better horizontal and vertical alignment; the improved road was intended also to provide the last surfaced link of the Trans-Africa Highway in Uganda, between Kenya and Zaire. The road was equally intended to divert traffic from the Katwe salt mine away from the Queen Elizabeth national park area in order not to disturb the environment and the life of the animals in the park.
