Multinational - Congo Basin Ecosystems Conservation Support Programme (PACEBCo) - Appraisal Report (1.5 MB)
Abstract: The program aims at the conservation of the second largest tropical forest in the world and the second “green lung” of the planet, after the Amazon. The Congo Basin covers an area of over 4 000 000 km2. The Programme is expected to provide responses to the continued degradation of this forest and climate change. PACEBCo will allow for better understanding of the new carbon markets, good practices in environmental monitoring, and the introduction of the Local Development Fund (LDF). The Programme will cover a period 5 years starting from March 2009, and it is estimated at a total cost of UA 37.28 million including an ADF grant of UA 32.00 million, a contribution of UA 5.00 million from the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and UA 0.28 million from the beneficiaries living in the selected landscapes.

Abstract: The purpose of the programme for the training of middle and senior executives is to develop the skills required for the diversification and competitiveness of the Equato-Guinean economy. The operation, which costs UA 91 million (UA), including UA 40 million for the Bank (to finance scientific equipment, laboratories, training and programme content ) and UA 51 million for the Republic of Equatorial Guinea (REG) (to finance the overall cost of construction and rehabilitation works), will be implemented over a five-year period, with effect from 2009. The programme was designed to serve the entire country, and its direct beneficiaries are young students through initial and continuous training provided by the provincial polytechnic institutes of Luba, Bata, Babying, Mongo and Evinayong, as well as by the National University of Equatorial Guinea. The programme also targets project developers, business employees, as well as the rural populations. It is ultimately expected to contribute to the achievement of food sufficiency, increase the non-oil gross domestic product, and improve the general living conditions of the populations.
