Faye, Issa

Mr. Issa FAYE joined the AfDB in November 2007 as a Senior Country Economist for Algeria where he helped deepen the country dialogue and the Bank agenda on competitiveness, private sector development and financial sector reforms. While in OSGE, he has been task managing a very active portfolio (Botswana, Niger, Namibia, Libya and Algeria), led policy-based lending operations supporting growth and diversification and has also carried out several activities geared towards enhancing competitiveness, private sector development and governance (Botswana, Niger). Before joining the Bank, Mr. Issa Faye worked with the World Bank (WB) Development Economic Research Group- for three years on research projects related to rural investment climate assessment, the evaluation of the impact of new extension delivery system, land policy issues and quality and impacts of social service delivery systems in rural Uganda.
His operational work with the WB-Africa region, as an economist, included technical support to rural development projects (Nigeria, Niger, Benin, Cameroon) and ESWs in the area of investment climate; poverty and sustainable land management; and irrigation sector. Prior to his engagement with the WB, Mr. Faye was Lecturer in Economics for four years at the University of Auvergne- Clermont 1 in Clermont-Ferrand/CERDI (FRANCE) and has worked as consultant on the impact of economic partnership agreement (Gambia & Senegal) with the ACP-EPA (Belgium). Issa Faye holds a Ph.D in Economics from the University of Auvergne- Clermont 1 (FRANCE). His research interests include: Microfinance, Private Sector Development, Public and Financial Sector Reforms, Investment Climate Assessment, International Trade and Integration.
