Peter Ondiege is Chief Research Economist in the Networking and Research Partnerships Division of the Development Research Department (EDRE). He coordinates the network for Eastern and Southern African Countries as well as Investment Climate Assessment and African Competitiveness Reports jointly undertaken with the World Bank and World Economic Forum. He holds a masters and doctorate degrees in economics from the University of Tsukuba, Japan. Between July 2004 and July 2006, he served as the Bank Group Annual Report Coordinator. Prior to joining the Bank in 2004, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has widely published in the field of Urban and Regional Economics and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development. He has also served as a consultant to a number of regional and international organizations and agencies. He has conducted and led a number of study teams mainly in the areas of Macroeconomic and Sectoral Reforms, and Enterprise Development especially in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Sector. He has wide experience in Impact Assessment and Monitoring and Evaluation studies in these areas. He also has vast experience in teaching at postgraduate level and in data processing, statistics/econometrics and research methods as well as providing consultancy services. He has over 20 years post qualifications hands on experience in the design, development and management of social science research projects and policy analysis. He has supervised and examined numerous post-graduate students (over 30 Masters & Ph.Ds).

His research interests include: African Economic Development Issues; Small and Medium Enterprise Sector Development; and Private Sector Development.
