13/10/2009 - Bank Group experts and their counterparts from the Global Water Partnership (GWP) on Friday, October 9, 2009, in Tunis concluded a two-day discussion on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in East and Southern Africa. Discussions also focused on how to find the way forward. The meeting, which ran from October 8-9, 2009, was marked by several presentations on integrated water management results and the evaluation of the water situation in the region.

13/10/2009 - The East African sub-regional African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) held its meeting from October 5-7, 2009, in Bujumbura, Burundi, with African Water Facility (AWF) experts attending. The conference brought together water sector experts, representatives of civil society organizations, NGOs, and other international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Bank, etc

15/09/2009 - Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, has approved a €1,430,000 grant from the African Water Facility (AWF) for the implementation of the regional water policy within the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). Estimated at € 2,263,000, the project will attract €1,430,000 from the African Water Facility, while IPPF-NEPAD will contribute €490,000.

The African Water Facility (AWF) organized a workshop from 10-14 August for Project Managers on the Operational Procedures for Projects Implementation. The workshop took place at Hotel Africa in Tunis (Tunisia). Nearly 30 experts from 13 French-speaking countries as well as six river basin organizations and regional institutions participated in the workshop.

05/06/2009 - The AfDB group, on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, approved an African Water Facility grant of € 999,000 to Swaziland to finance the implementation of Phase II studies of the Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Project (LUSIP).

01/06/2009 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group and Liberia have signed a grant agreement of €1,694,000 to finance the country’s Water Sector Reform Study. The initiative is expected to support government efforts to improve water resources management, thereby contributing to efforts at alleviating poverty and meeting MDG targets for water supply and sanitation in the country.

01/07/2008 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Donald Kaberuka, on Monday, June 30, 2008, said that «the AfDB looks forward to efficiently contributing to efforts aimed at overcoming the water and sanitation challenge faced by African countries." Mr. Kaberuka made the remark while addressing some fifty African heads of state and government during the eleventh summit of the African Union in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The summit was held on the theme: "Meeting the Millennium Development Goals on Water and Sanitation."
