22/05/2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved on 16 May in Tunis, an equity investment of USD 100 million to Agvance Africa, the first agribusiness-focused Fund of Funds on the African continent. The strategic objective of Agvance Africa is to increase private investment flows into the agribusiness sector on the continent to address growing food security concerns and unleash the largely unexploited potential of African agriculture and agribusiness sectors.

21/05/2012 - African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka capped a visit to Washington with a landmark meeting at the Group of Eight (G8) Summit on Saturday. The special session focused on agriculture policy in Africa, and in particular, a fresh initiative called the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition.

16/05/2012 - An African Development Bank (AfDB) mission is currently in Khartoum, Sudan, working with Government authorities and other stakeholders to develop a program intended to build resilience to droughts and provide sustainable livelihoods in the Greater Horn of Africa (GHOA). The mission is headed by AfDB livestock specialist, Umar Lawal, together with Abdul B. Kamara, AfDB’s Resident Representative for Sudan, and various experts from the AfDB and from the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

15/05/2012 - La BAD et l’office chérifien des phosphates (OCP) ont signé, le 10 mai 2012 à Casablanca, un accord de prêt de 250 millions de dollars dans le cadre du programme d’investissement de l’OCP. Ce prêt est le premier financement non-souverain que la BAD accorde à une entreprise marocaine. Il constitue un repère important dans la vision de la Banque en matière de promotion des entreprises africaines.

08/05/2012 - Since 2006 the African Development Bank has been supporting the Rwanda government in restoring and improving the Rwandan fisheries sector. Support has been given to both capture fisheries in inland lakes and to aquaculture.

02/05/2012 - Traditional fishing in Madagascar is practiced at national level by around 59,000 fishermen mainly along the coast and within coral reefs, especially in the south-western province of Tulear. The radius of action of fishing canoes is below 10 km.

23/04/2012 - On 13 March 2012 the African Development Bank (AfDB) launched a series of seminars to help Bank staff fully understand green growth and help define the Bank’s operational strategy in this area. The theme of the seminar was “Making green growth work for Africa - early lessons,” and it was presented by Dr Jens Riese, who oversees public sector work on green growth at the management consulting firm, McKinsey.
