AfDB, CHAD Sign Country Office Agreement

Tunis, 29 September 2005 - The African Development Bank Group and the government of Chad on Thursday September, 29, signed the agreement establishing the Bank Groups’s country office in Chad.

During the signing ceremony, President Donald Kaberuka indicated that "one of the tangible results that the Bank expects from the office will be the acceleration of the rhythm of implementation of projects and programmes and the improvement of the rate of disbursement of committed resources… "Progress in these areas is indispensable for increasing the impact of our projects on development and for the greater benefit of the populations concerned", he added.

On his part, Chad’s Minister of Planning, Development and Cooperation, Mr. Mahamat Ali Hassan, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement "which will strengthen cooperation between the Bank and [his] country", saying he was "satisfied with the commitment of the Bank on the side of Chad in its fight against poverty".

The portfolio of the Bank Group in Chad is made up of 12 ongoing projects for a cumulative commitment of some 90.7 billion FCFA.
