AfDB in a Workshop on Strengthening National Statistics Offices

The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) jointly with the IMF East AFRITAC and in collaboration with Tanzania National Bureau of Statistics organized a regional workshop on Strengthening of National Statistical Offices in Eastern and Southern Africa countries.

The workshop is being held in Bagamoyo, Tanzania from 15-17 February 2006, and has drawn participants from thirteen countries in the region (mainly Heads of National Statistics Offices), as well as Development Partners supporting statistics initiatives in the region, namely the IMF, DFID, AfDB and ACBF.

The African Development Bank is represented by Mr. Wilberforce Mariki, Macroeconomist.

The workshop, which was opened by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Mr. Arthur Mwakapugi, and chaired by Mrs. Devi Manjar, Statistical Advisor, East AFRITAC, involves the sharing of knowledge and experiences on the importance of producing quality data based on international standards and draw from the experiences of heads of national statistics offices in developing national statistical master plans.
