AfDB Outreach in Ghana

AfDB participated in a workshop for Ghanaian Civil Society Organization (CSOs) in Accra on 12 and 13 February 2009. The workshop was organized by the Compliance Adviser/Ombudsman of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in cooperation with SEND-Ghana, a national NGO that works to promote good governance. Approximately 40 CSOs from different parts of the country attended the workshop, which emphasized on how to improve access to independent accountability mechanism of international finance institutions.  The director of Compliance Review Mechanism Unit (CRMU), Mr. Per Eldar Sovik presented the Bank’s Independent Review Mechanism, including its mandate and procedures, and encouraged the participant NGOs to disseminate information about the Independent Review Mechanism to communities affected by AfDB financed projects. During his visit to Ghana, Mr. Sovik held separate meetings with the Banks’ field office staff and project coordinators responsible for implementing AfDB funded projects.
