On Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27, 2014, Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), embarked on a two-day tour of Freetown (Sierra Leone) and Monrovia (Liberia) to signal his support for those affected by the Ebola virus.

The AfDB President was accompanied by Dr. Luis G. Sambo, WHO Regional Director for Africa. The visit followed the signature of a $60-million donor agreement between the two institutions. The AfDB grant will be used to help fund the response to an epidemic that has spread across West Africa in recent months.

The tour included meetings with the countries’ respective heads of state, Ernest Bai Koroma and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, as well as representatives from the WHO and other development partners.
