This year the African Development Bank will mark 25 years of evaluation work during Evaluation Week, which will take place in Tunis, Tunisia, from December 3 to 6, 2012.
The AfDB Evaluation week, an evaluation Indaba, is an annual learning event established to serve as a platform for Bank staff to discuss, debate and reflect on key lessons from evaluations of Bank programs. It is also an opportunity for development practitioners, beneficiaries and evaluation specialists to discuss key issues of concern to Africa’s development.
Speaking about the event, the Director of the Operations Evaluation Department, Rakesh Nangia, said, “Over the years, the evaluation function has evolved to meet the Bank’s need for evaluation of its work in an ever-changing development environment. It has made a significant contribution to the Bank’s work. However, the department’s story has never fully been told. We have planned two events to commemorate this silver anniversary: a global evaluation essay contest on evaluation in Africa, and a publication on the history of evaluation at the AfDB. This promises to be a very interesting and informative week.”
