Experts from the African Development Bank and the World Bank in Tunis on Monday, October 3, began a two-day retreat aimed at establishing a strategic partnership for sustainable water and sanitation services in Africa. The objectives of the retreat are to strengthen the working relationship/esprit de corps between the WSS teams in the two institutions, and update each other on progress in sector initiatives adopted by each institution.

The ADB and the World Bank also want to reach agreement on key strategies to sector development including: Rural Water Supply Programmatic approach/budget support, promoting hygiene and sanitation, capacity building and sector monitoring. The two will also work together in assessing country situations and agreeing on Water Supply and Sanitation action plans.

The meeting was jointly opened by the ADB Vice President in charge of Policy, Planning and Research, Mr. Chanel Boucher, and Mr. Jamal Saghir, Director of the Water and Energy Department of the World Bank.
