Number of Women in Managerial Positions on the rise

Tunis, 16 February 2007 - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, has announced a large number of senior appointments to his management team. These are Directors, Division Managers, Country Resident Representatives and Lead Experts.  The appointments were driven by the strategy to renew the Bank’s skills and talent base, and were aimed at ensuring the best prospect of attracting a wide range of talent, and diverse internal and external candidates reflecting a broad range of experiences. 

The appointments mark the third stage of Mr. Kaberuka’s efforts to renew the institution’s management capacity as part of a major transformation program aimed at enhancing the Bank’s development effectiveness.  It will be followed by a similar competitive process to fill 137 professional positions at several levels. 

These appointments culminated from a competitive, global search process that involved about 9,500 applications from around the world.  In his announcement, the President of the Bank Group expressed his satisfaction that the process had attracted such a wealth of internal and external talent, and succeeded in raising the representation of women in the Bank’s managerial ranks.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is a regional multilateral development finance institution established in 1964 to mobilize resources for the funding of economic development and social projects and programmes in its Regional Member Countries (RMCs). Membership of the Bank comprises 53 African (i.e. regional) States and 24 non-African (i.e. non-regional) countries.

The Bank’s authorized capital as at 31 December 2005 was UA*  21.87 billion while its portfolio from 1967 when it began operation to 2005 stand at 2,988 loans and grants totaling UA 36.69 billion.
