The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Donald Kaberuka, is on an official visit to China from February 3-6, 2010. In Beijing, Mr. Kaberuka met with Chinese political authorities and the country’s highest financial authorities such as the China Central Bank Governor and leaders of the Export-Import Bank of China (Exim Bank). He also visited Shenzhen City, the capital of new technology development in southern China.

Sharing experiences

China has maintained long established relations with Africa and these relations have strengthened in recent years. According to official Chinese statistics, Sino-African trade has increased tenfold over a ten year period. It now exceeds 110 billion USD.

For the AfDB president, this mission is primarily a "goodwill visit to consolidate relations between China and the Bank. China has been a member of the AfDB since 1985. It hosted the AfDB 2007 Annual Meetings. We want to strengthen our relationships and learn from their experiences," Mr. Kaberuka said ahead of his official visit. "Given the considerable progress made by this country, I would like to see more Chinese companies invest more in Africa."
