Bank Group President Receives BCEAO Governor

Bank Group president, Donald Kaberuka, met on Monday in Tunis with the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) Governor, Mr. Philippe Davoury-Tabley who is in Tunis to attend the African Economic Conference and the forum on the impact of the global financial crisis on the African economy. The two men reviewed the partnership between their institutions on a current project aimed at updating payment systems in BCEAO countries. They also focused on possible collaboration in the development of micro-finance and the region’s financial markets, especially in the issuing of bonds in  BCEAO markets. They also discussed the establishment of projects in the West African Economic and Monetary Union and the upcoming G20 meeting. Both men stressed the need for Africa to be heard on matters relating to the consequences of the global financial, food and oil crises on the continent. They examined possibilities of the Bank supporting the BCEAO by training its staff in financial investments, the generation of IT -based business plans and the establishment of a business continuity plan. The meeting was also attended by Lead Economist,  Issa Koussoube.
