"…over the last 40 years or so, geology has been a critical factor in Africa’s economic growth. However, it is in the last decade that it has emerged as a prominent driver of economic growth. A number of natural resource-rich countries such as Botswana, South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, and Algeria, have consistently posted GDP growth rates above 5% over a seven-year period, while in countries such as Angola and Equatorial Guinea, growth has been in double digit figures."
