Business Alliances to Support Private Sector Development in Africa

Tunis, 3rd November 2006- The African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the Tunisian-Dutch Chamber of Commerce and Industry will organize at the Sheraton Hotel a Luncheon-Debate on "Financing Private Sector Development in Africa". This event is an opportunity for participants to be informed on the Bank’s private sector development strategy and related activities in sectors such as Infrastructure, agriculture, banking, manufacturing, gas, and maritime.

The Vice President in charge of Infrastructure, Private Sector Operations, NEPAD and Water Facility, Mr. Mandla Gantsho, will give the keynote address in the presence of Mr. Hatem Ben Salem, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event will bring together 92 Dutch/ Tunisian members of the Chamber, the Dutch Ambassador and Ambassadors of African countries in Tunisia (Algeria, Egypt, Ivory Cost, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Sudan). Other participants include senior officials from the Tunisian Administration (Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs, Director of Cabinet of the Minister of Trade), CEOs of leading multinationals operating in Tunisia,  as well as Businessmen & representatives of major Tunisian public enterprises active in different countries of Africa.

The main thrust of this event is to build synergies between Dutch and Tunisian business people with a view to investing in Africa with the support of AfDB private sector financing.
