Three major events involving the Bank’s portfolio in Mali were organized under the patronage of Malian President, Amadou Toumani Touré, as part of end-of-year activities. The events included the launching of the 1,151 km Bougouni - Sikasso Road Programme; the commissioning of the 229 km road works on the Sékokoto-Bafing-Kéniéba-Falémé road on the Bamako-Dakar Corridor through the Southern part; and the inauguration of the 91 km Narena – Bamako road carried out within the framework of the Kankan - Kouremalé – Bamako road project.

The sectoral objective of these road projects is to contribute to the strengthening of economic integration and cooperation among sub-regional member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAMU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The projects will also help to open up landlocked countries in the sub-region. The Bank’s contribution towards the financing of the three projects amounts to approximately UA 80 million.
