Mr. David Ssegawa appointed as Director, Corporate Human Resources of the African Development Bank Group

The African Development Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of David Ssegawa, as the Director of the Corporate Human Resources Department, effective May 1, 2016. A Ugandan citizen, David Ssegawa is a seasoned human resources expert and thought leader on organizational transformations, with more than 20 years of experience in the private sector, including commercial banking. 

David Ssegawa holds a Master of Business Administration Degree in employment relations and strategic human resources from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom, and Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Social Administration from Makerere University in Uganda.

He joins the Bank from Airtel Bharti Africa where he has been the Chief Human Resources Officer, supervising all directors of human resources across its operations in 17 African countries. He is respected for helping to re-design the organization to achieve strategic, operational, and cultural alignment across a portfolio of very diverse markets and an equally diverse workforce. 

He was previously the Human Resources Director for Coca Cola South Africa from 2011-2012 and Director of Human Resources for Coca Cola, for West, East and Central Africa, from 2008 to 2011, where he helped to raise employee engagement scores to the highest in the Coca Cola Eurasia-Africa Group within two years. Prior to this he worked as Human Resources, Compensation and Benefits Manager for the Coca Cola Company in West, East and Central Africa, Senior Manager for regional human resources for Stanbic Africa (Standard Bank of Southern Africa), Head of Human Resources for Stanbic Bank of Tanzania, and Head of Human Resources for Stanbic Bank of Uganda. He has also worked as Regional Human Resources Development and Training Manager for Unilever, East Africa and Human Resources Manager for Unilever, Uganda.

David Ssegawa brings a record of accomplishments and experience in human resources management for enhancing institutional effectiveness. The ability to drive organizational change has been the hallmark of his career. A reform-minded human resources expert, he brings extensive experience in staff development, organizational re-design for effectiveness and managing human resources for effective decentralization of organizations closer to clients. At Airtel, he helped to create a series of regional hubs which allowed staff resources to be effectively deployed for greater effectiveness of business operations. He brings extensive experience in introducing technology-based solutions to automation of processes within organizations, enhancing staff productivity and internal efficiencies, while reducing redundancies. Throughout his career he has helped to design and implement new organizational structures to drive performance. A firm believer in staff development, he brings experience in building organizations’ employer brand and improving employer value propositions.
