As part of the consultation process for the development of the Bank Group’s Climate Risk Management Strategy, the Bank is hosting a Workshop which brings together a wide-range of experts working on climate sensitive sectors in the region, including national governments, civil society, non-governmental organizations, private sector, centres of excellence, and development partners. A Concept Note on the implications of climate risks on sustainable development in Africa and on the operations of the African Development Bank will form the basis for discussion at the workshop taking place Novembre 20, 2007, starting from 5:45 PM, Hotel Barcelo Carthage Thalasso, Room "Carthage 2".

The objective of the workshop is to consult both regional and non-regional stakeholders on the orientation of the Bank CRM strategy.  Thus, the aim of the Workshop is: 

  • to reach a consensus on the conceptual framework for integrating climate risk management into Bank’s operations; 
  • to determine region-specific challenges and opportunities that can better inform the strategy;
  • to identify institutional- resource and knowledge gaps as well as lessons from ongoing initiatives in the region;
  • to define critical aspects for the implementation of the strategy and to encourage climate risk management and strengthen links to development objectives.
