Wangari Maathai, a Global Icon

This is a time of sadness. Wangari Maathai was an icon. She was a true example of the very best that mankind stands for. Her's was a life of devotion and service to others. We at the African Development Bank shall miss a committed friend who was instrumental in our work as Co-Patron of the Congo Basin Forest Initiative. She truly made Africa proud.
The best way we can remember Wangari is to carry forward all that she cared for, such as the preservation of planet earth and the struggle against injustice everywhere. On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the African Development Bank, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Wangari’s loved ones. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
