05/04/2013 - As of the 31st of March 2013, the Global Environment Facility’s Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) has granted USD 18.6 million to be channeled by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to Sierra Leone, Uganda and Mauritania for project concepts to help climate-proof their water sectors. This work is regarded as a critical element of these countries’ moves toward climate-resilient poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Remittances represent a rising source of finance for the continent and hold immense potential as drivers of economic growth and development. A recent study, Leveraging Migration for Africa: Remittances, Skills, and Investments, conducted by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the World Bank shows that remittance flows into Africa reached US $40 billion in 2010 and have quadrupled since 1990. African remittances currently account for 2.6 per cent of GDP, a figure that in some countries equals or even exceeds both foreign direct investment and aid.

04/03/2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Investment and Development Bank of the Economic Community of West African States (EBID) signed today a grant agreement amounting to US $950,000 to strengthen the EBID institutional capacities. The signing ceremony, held during the inauguration of the AfDB national office in Togo, was chaired by Serge N’Guessan, AfDB Resident Representative in Togo, and Bashir Ifo, EBID President.

01/03/2013 - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Donald Kaberuka, was received on Thursday, February 28 in Yamoussoukro by Alassane Ouattara, President of Côte D’Ivoire. The meeting took place alongside the 42th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), one day after the AfDB Board of Directors held its meeting in Abidjan.
