05/04/2013 - As of the 31st of March 2013, the Global Environment Facility’s Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) has granted USD 18.6 million to be channeled by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to Sierra Leone, Uganda and Mauritania for project concepts to help climate-proof their water sectors. This work is regarded as a critical element of these countries’ moves toward climate-resilient poverty reduction and sustainable development.

05/04/2013 - The African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Board of Executive Directors on April 3, 2013 approved the Somalia Country Brief 2013-2015 which aims to help revive the country’s institutions, and enable the country’s re-engage with the international community after two decades of conflict and isolation.

25/03/2013 - On March 13-14, 2013, a wide range of stakeholders gathered in Dar-es-Salaam for a Tanzania Government-hosted workshop to consider the country’s “Geothermal Legal and Regulatory Framework”. Participants included government officials, private developers, geothermal resource survey specialists, development partners, lawyers and civil society representatives.

18/03/2013 - The Development Effectiveness Review (DER) is a series of publications reviewing the African Development Bank’s (AfDB or Bank) contribution to Africa’s development results. Beginning with the first Annual Development Effectiveness Review published in 2011, the DER series has promoted transparency and accountability to our member countries and stakeholders. It also helps us ensure that our operations are continually improving. In 2012, we have published a series of DERs examining aspects of the Bank’s portfolio, including fragile states, regional integration, governance and the Bank’s country program in Rwanda.

11/03/2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Republic of Sudan on February 28, 2013 signed an agreement for a grant of US $0.34 million to the National Energy Research Centre (NERC) to undertake Capacity Building and Assessment of Options for Increasing Access to Energy in Sudan.

11/03/2013 - A team from the African Development Bank Group, led by Abdoulaye Dagamaissa, Manager, Agriculture and Agro-Industry Department (OSAN), and comprising Harouna Dosso, Senior Agronomist, OSAN/Ethiopia Field Office (ETFO); Hailemariam Hailemeskel, Agricultural Economist, OSAN/ETFO; and Paxina Chileshe-Toe, Natural Resources Management Specialist, OSAN, undertook a site visit from February 25-27 to Adaar, one of the six beneficiary woredas (administrative units) in the Afar region of Ethiopia, where the Drought Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods Program (DRSLP) will be implemented. The team was assisted by a locally recruited cameraman and photographer.
