18/02/2013 - The African Development Fund (ADF) was created in 1972 to accompany the least fortunate African economies on the road to social and economic progress. At the time it is celebrating its 40th anniversary, this African Development Bank group (AfDB)’s window for grants and concessional loans can be proud of its several decades of achievements and numerous results to showcase its contribution to improving the lives of Africans.

18/02/2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) jointly organized the workshop “Green Growth in Africa: Concepts, Tools and Strategies for Building Greener Economies and a Sustainable Future”. Hosted by the Zambian Ministry of Lands in Lusaka in January, the workshop attracted over 100 participants from 18 African countries, including representatives from bilateral and multilateral organizations.

15/02/2013 - The Chairman of the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), Eltigani Seisi Ateem, called on the African Development Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, on February 14, 2013 in Tunis. According to Ateem, the African Development Bank Group will champion the upcoming high-profile Donor Pledging Conference for Darfur in Doha in early April. He expressed the need for the Bank’s technical assistance to DRA.

14/02/2013 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group holds its 2013 Annual Meetings in Marrakech, Morocco, from 27 to 31 May 2013. More than 2,500 delegates including finance ministers, central bank governors and CEOs from the institution’s 78 member countries will participate in the meetings.

14/02/2013 - The African Development Bank paid homage to indigenous peoples in Africa by way of a forum organized on the 11 and 12 February themed « Forum on Indigenous Peoples’ Development in Africa ». For two days, experts discussed the development stakes concerning autochthonous populations. The essence of the discussions was to come forward with realistic solutions to questions concerning their birthright, the preservation of their environment and even more so their inclusion to the global development process in their respective regions.

Nobel Prize-winner, Professor Muhammad Yunus, will give a speech in the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Eminent Speakers Series on March 12, 2013 in Tunis. The topic of Prof. Yunus’ speech, the 19th in the series which began in 2005, will be “Building Social Business in Africa: the new kind of capitalism that serves society’s most pressing needs.”

12/02/2013 - The Chief Economist Complex of the African Development Bank Group has released an Economic Brief on the application of diaspora bonds in an African context. Drawing lessons from diaspora bond issuances in Israel, Ethiopia and India, the paper, entitled “Diaspora Bonds: Some Lessons for African Countries”, argues that tapping migration wealth could be an effective means of funding development on the continent.

12/02/2013 - L’Institut africain de développement (IAD) organise du 4 au 14 février à Lomé, (Togo), un atelier régional de formation sur la mise en œuvre des projets dédiés aux experts de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD). L’atelier a pour but d’améliorer la performance des opérations de la Banque grâce à l’existence d’un panel conséquent de professionnels de la formation, en vue de relayer les actions de l’Institut dans sa mission d’assistance aux projets.
