04/01/2013 - The African Development Bank and the Government of Malawi officially launched the UA 29.45 million Malawi Higher Education, Science and Technology (HEST) Project in Ntchisi, Malawi, in December. The Bank has provided an ADF loan of UA 9.05 million and a grant of UA 10 million plus an additional loan of UA 6.5 million from the Nigerian Trust Fund, while the Government of Malawi is to provide UA 2.95 million in counterpart funding.

06/12/2012 - “‛Bread, freedom and social justice’ is what Egyptian revolutionaries called for in the January 25 revolution; the one issue that touches on all of this is unemployment,” Egypt’s Prime Minister Hisham Kandil said in a speech during the official opening of the “Youth Employment: Building the Future of Egypt” forum co-organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Social Fund for Development (SFD) in Cairo on December 5.

06/12/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) on Thursday signed two loan agreements with the Government of Kenya amounting to millions of dollars to finance a major regional hydroelectric power project and the enhancement of the country’s higher education system.

05/12/2012 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank, on November 21, approved the Uganda Support to Higher Education, Science and Technology Project, a key Human Development operation that will contribute to the economic and social transformation of Uganda and the East African sub-region. In line with Uganda’s National Development Plan for 2011-2015, the project aims to turn the country into a regionally competitive industrial economy by 2025 by developing skills and investing in science and technology.

29/11/2012 - The African Development Bank is investing in the Lake Chad Region to empower particularly women in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDs. The AfDB has been supporting skills building and education of health service providers as part of its strategy to develop the region’s human capital and improve health service delivery and HIV/AIDS responses.

29/11/2012 - The education of Kenya’s youth is being threatened by HIV/AIDS. Children affected by the disease shy away from schools due to social stigmas and lack of funds, while the country is losing an estimated 1.7 per cent of its teachers each year due to the disease.
