Chinese involvement can be readily seen in North African sectors like energy, infrastructure development, retail trade and, increasingly, in manufacturing. Yet, at the same time, North African industry has experienced the fallout associated with Chinese competitiveness in manufacturing within their domestic market and in third country markets.

09/08/2011 - African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka is on a two-day working visit to Egypt. Meeting with Prime Minister Essam Sharaf and members of cabinet in Cairo on Monday, 8 August, Mr. Kaberuka reaffirmed the Bank's continued support as the country goes through momentous changes.

13/07/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a €20-million equity investment in the Maghreb Private Equity Fund III (MPEF III). This third-generation multi-sector private equity fund will target investments in Small and Medium Enterprises in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and, according to emerging investment opportunities, Egypt.

27/06/2011 - Egyptian journalist Lamia Hassan has been awarded the 2011 CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist Environment Award. Hassan, who works for Business Today Egypt, won the award for her story ‘Washed up’, which was chosen from among 1407 entries from 42 nations across the African continent.
