01/11/2011 - In a continuous effort to explore creative financing options to develop Africa’s green economy, African Development Bank (AfDB) staff members attended training on environmental fiscal reform (EFR) between 4 and 6 October in Tunis, Tunisia. EFR refers to a range of taxation and pricing measures that governments can use to raise fiscal revenues while furthering environmental goals. Hosted by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the workshop explained the main elements of EFR (taxes, fees and subsidies), and how can they work together and with other financing instruments and mechanisms in a coherent way to achieve environmental and social impacts. Legal and governmental issues were discussed along with ways to identify windows of opportunity for EFR based on country needs. Trainers offered an action plan to trigger an EFR discussion process and subsequent implementation of EFR policy and instruments.

Toutefois, cela ne doit pas les écarter de l’exploitation des ressources renouvelables. C’est le consensus qui s’est dégagé des discussions consacrées aux énergies renouvelables et aux questions environnementales de la Conférence économique africaine en cours, à Addis-Abeba.

20/07/2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) and global conservation group WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) have come together to work closely on green economy and development issues in Africa. Both organisations signed a cooperative agreement to this effect in Geneva on 20July.

He further said: “With the Bank, we hope to share expertise, technical assistance as well as policy learning, as well as on how to help value and protect Africa’s incomparable natural and biodiversity heritage.”

15/07/2011 - The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a technical cooperation agreement with the Government of Denmark for the establishment of a sustainable energy fund for Africa (SEFA) for capacity building and investment in sustainable energy over a five-year period. The budget for the fund is set at a DKK 300 million (equivalent to USD 57 million).
