Increasing women’s access to infrastructure services (energy, transport, water and irrigation), is crucial for women’s economic empowerment and well-being. In 2007 the Multilateral Development Banks Working Group on Gender agreed to jointly enhance the efforts to mainstream a gender perspective into their respective operations in these sectors. To this end it initiated regional workshops to build the capacity of sector experts in the client countries and respective institutions.
