Africans in Africa and all over the world will celebrate Africa Day on Wednesday 25 May, and the African Development Bank – “Africa’s Bank” ever since the days of independence in the 1960s – will be joining in the celebrations.

The Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) will organize a workshop to review Technical and Vocational Skills Development (TVSD) initiatives and experiences in Africa, from March 24-26, in Ouagadougou. The workshop will guide preparations of studies on TVSD for the 2011 ADEA Triennial, which will take place from 27 November to 2 December 2011 in the Burkinabe capital.

The next African Union (AU) Summit of Heads of State and Government will take place from July 25-27, 2010, in Kampala, Uganda. The 15th session will be held on the theme: "Maternal, newborn and child health and development in Africa." The African Development Bank (AfDB) organized on Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Dakar, a meeting for the dissemination of the institution’s capacity-building strategy. The meeting was opened by the AfDB Regional Resident Representative in Senegal, Mohamed H'Midouche, who described the meeting as a unique opportunity to analyze capacity issues from the operations angle, and to help countries put capacity building at the centre of their development strategies.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) will be hosting, 1-5 December 2009 in Tunis, the 4th Annual Meeting of the Harmonization for Health in Africa (HHA) initiative. What is exceptional about this year’s meeting is that it will convene a special two-day session involving Permanent Secretaries from Ministries in charge of Finance and Health from over a dozen African countries to deliberate on the Investment Case for Health Expenditures in Africa and to explore strategies to enhance coordination between these ministries.

Let’s encourage open dialogue amongst ourselves,” Bank Group President, Donald Kaberuka, said on December 1, 2009, in Tunis while opening events marking the celebration of World AIDS Day; an event that was attended by many senior management members, executive directors, Bank staff and guests.
