The high inflation rates that that have been plaguing the countries of East Africa recently could start to fall in 2012 and eventually reach single-digit level, a meeting organised by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Nairobi heard today.The seminar on ‘Inflation Dynamics in East Africa’ brought together the governors and high officials from the central banks of Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Nigeria to discuss the bout of high inflation recently suffered in the region.

On 18 May 2010, the African Development Bank (AfDB) hosted the first meeting designed to start up the Equity and Guarantee Fund for Agriculture and Agribusiness in Africa (EGFAA), a USD 1.2 billion financial facility aimed at spearheading the African Agribusiness and Agro-industries Development Initiative (3ADI), launched in Abuja in March 2010.

The Bank Group hosted a joint organizing committee for the preparation of the High Level conference on Development of Agribusiness and Agro-industries (HLCD-3A) in Tunis from January 21-22, 2010. The HLCD-3A is expected to hold from March 8-10, 2010, in Abuja, Nigeria, under the auspices of the African Union (AU).

A Microsoft delegation on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, concluded a two-day working visit to the Bank Group. The Bank supported a four-day workshop on Revitalizing Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) for ECOWAS Countries in Abuja, between 17th-20th August, 2009. The primary objective of the workshop was to create a platform for knowledge and experience sharing in reforming, revitalizing and expanding national TVET systems in order to improve skills delivery, employability and mobility of the youth within ECOWAS states. In view of the importance the Bank attaches to the development of human capital for effective economic integration and growth through TVET, it provided conference materials for all the 73 participants from 15 ECOWAS countries. The workshop was launched by the Minister of Education, Sam Egwu.
