As one of the main implementers of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) in Africa, the African Development Bank (AfDB) will host the 2011 CIF Partnership Forum in Cape Town, South Africa from 24-25 June 2011. AfDB Vice President, Bobby Pittman, is expected to give opening remarks and welcome over 400 delegates expected from recipient countries, other multilateral development banks, UN agencies, donor countries and other stakeholders.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was established in 1992 at the Rio Summit with the aim of addressing the issue of global warming and its consequences. The Conference of Parties (COP) is the highest decision-making authority of the UNFCCC and its sessions take place once a year to specify rules for UNFCCC implementation.

The African Development Bank illustrated the vast potential of Africa’s renewable energy sector and private sector projects to some 40 private industry firms, consultants, and investors from a dozen countries at the Annual Energy Sector Mission which took place in Washington, D.C. from 31 October to 4 November 2010.

The African Development Bank Group will on June 17, 2010 join other development partners and the international community at large to observe the United Nations' World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. The Day, which has been marked since 1995, will this year focus on the theme “Enhancing soils anywhere enhances life everywhere".

The Africa Carbon Forum (ACF) is a regional platform established to promote knowledge and information sharing including business facilitation among the main carbon market players in the region. It is an event that brings together representatives from Designated National Authorities (DNA), Climate Change National Focal Points, Government and the Private Sector. This year the second Africa Carbon Forum has taken place in Nairobi, Kenya, 3-5 March 2010.
