The African Development Bank (AfDB) and its international partners are jointly organizing an Africa regional consultation on peace-building and state-building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 7-9 September 2011. The co-organizers include the International Dialogue on Peace-building and State-building, OECD and the fragile and post-conflict countries group, as well as the African Union Commission and the UN Economic Commission for Africa.

Increasing women’s access to infrastructure services (energy, transport, water and irrigation), is crucial for women’s economic empowerment and well-being. In 2007 the Multilateral Development Banks Working Group on Gender agreed to jointly enhance the efforts to mainstream a gender perspective into their respective operations in these sectors. To this end it initiated regional workshops to build the capacity of sector experts in the client countries and respective institutions.

Financing from official development assistance and national budgets is clearly not sufficient to close the financing gap in the water and sanitation sector, the African Development Bank (AfDB) says, on the eve of the 3rd Africa Water Week, calling for more innovative sources of funding.

An African Development Bank (AfDB) Regional Integration Strategy Paper (RISP) for Eastern Africa will be validated at a workshop scheduled to take place on 11 November in Nairobi, Kenya. The RISP covers Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. It is designed to support for regional infrastructure and institutional capacity building, including trade facilitation.

The African Development Forum jointly initiated in 1999 by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union Commission (AUC) to address development challenges in Africa and to establish a consensual Africa-driven development agenda on the continent, holds its seventh edition from 10-15 October 2010 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In Africa, they have incontestably changed thinking on development policy. On the continent, many countries have relied on these technologies in their development efforts. Similarly, the 14th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government scheduled to take place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, from 31 January to 2 February, 2010, will be held on the theme: “Information and Communication Technologies in Africa: Challenges and Prospects for Development.” The AfDB President, Donald Kaberuka, will attend the summit.
