World Press Freedom Day is celebrated on 3 May. The 2012 World Press Freedom Day has more resonance in Tunisia, in the year after its revolution which gave the country press freedom, and sparked the ‘Arab Spring’ of 2011.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) will hold its annual Partnerships Forum from 22 – 23 March 2012, at Hotel Ramada Plaza-Gammarth in Tunis, Tunisia. This year’s forum theme is “Transforming Partnerships towards a Green and Inclusive Africa.” Participants will include representatives of bilateral and multilateral donors, business sector, private foundations, knowledge institutions and Civil Society Organizations.

Remittances back home to North Africa and the franc zone from African migrants working abroad are worth tens of billions of euros every year. They are resilient to crisis and are a valuable spur to development in Africa. However, the costs of sending this money are far too high.

“The African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) is committed to work with the Pan-African Lawyers’ Union (PALU) towards the creation of a better legal environment that creates an unquestionable stability necessary to attract national and foreign investments in Africa,” said ALSF’s CEO, Stephen Karangizi, as a prelude to a joint ALSF-PALU capacity building seminar that will be held from 24 to 26 January 2012, in Tunis.

The opening session was marked by speeches delivered by Beji Caid Essebsi, Tunisian Prime Minister, and Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank.
