The fifth meeting of the Committee of Ten Finance Ministers and Governors (C-10) will take place in Washington, DC on 6 October 2010, preceded by the second meeting of the C10 Deputies on October 5. The C10 is mandated by African leaders to review the impact of the financial crisis on Africa, to advise on Africa’s response, and to put forward African perspectives to the G20. The meeting in Washington follows the recent Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) ministerial meeting in Seoul. It is intended to help put development and Africa at the center of the G20 agenda in Seoul.

01/10/2010 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, Citigroup and International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, have agreed to provide USD 175 million in trade financing for exporters and importers in Africa to help boost economic growth.

01/07/2010 - The adverse impacts of the financial crisis that hit the world in 2008 became evident in Africa towards the end of the same year. Its severity and detrimental impact on investment and trade required urgent, collective countercyclical actions by the international financial community, using creative and pragmatic approaches that would support the recovery of trade flows as soon as possible. In particular, as many African commercial banks were experiencing severe liquidity constraints, the African Development Bank (AfDB) had an important role to play in helping the continent through the financial crisis.

25/06/2010 - African Development Bank (AfDB) Group President, Donald Kaberuka, will participate in the G-20 leaders meeting in Toronto from 26-27 June 2010. At the institution’s recent Annual Meetings in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in May 2010, Mr. Kaberuka was re-elected as the institution’s president for a second five-year term. As with previous G-20 Summits, Mr. Kaberuka will attend in his capacity as a member of the African Union delegation.

At the recent Annual Meeting in Abidjan, in May 2010, Mr. Kaberuka was re-elected as President of the AfDB for a second five year term. 28/05/2010 - Never before was the need for a strengthened and unified African voice on key economic policies so crucial than when the financial and economic crisis hit. Clearly, the issue of a stronger African voice in global policy debates is not new. But when Africa was hit very hard by a crisis it did not create, its stakes in international policy debates and decision-making increased markedly, particularly in issues of global economic governance.
