15/07/2012 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has pledged its continued support for women empowerment in the continent. The President of the AfDB, Donald Kaberuka, made the pledge in a video message to the 2nd African Women Economic Summit holding in Lagos, Nigeria.
15/07/2012 - The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is committed to the promotion of gender equality across the continent according to the head, gender unit of the Bank, Ginette Yoman. She stated this at the 2nd African Women Economic Summit (AWES) jointly hosted by the AfDB and New Faces New Voices in Lagos, Nigeria.

08/03/2012 - I look forward to the day when I will no longer be referred to as the first and only female president in Africa. The women of Africa are empowering themselves and taking on leadership roles in all facets of society, and I am happy to serve as a role model and trailblazer for those who will come after me. As for balancing family life and my responsibilities as President, let me say that by the time I became President in 2006, my sons were all grown men, pursuing successful professional careers and with families of their own.
07/03/2012 - The African Development Bank will be celebrating International Women’s Day on Thursday, 8 March. It is an event that is now more than 100 years old. International Women’s Day first began in 1911 when women were fighting for basic rights such as the right to vote, to hold public office and even to hold down a job.

11/10/2011 - The World Bank, in collaboration with the African Development Bank, held a seminar to disseminate the World Bank flagship Report on World Development 2012: Gender Equality and Development, and to hold consultation on another report on Gender Equality in Africa, particularly in the region of North Africa and Middle East.

22/03/2011 - Today, H.E. Sufian Ahmed, Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Ethiopia, will lead the opening ceremony of a workshop on “Mainstreaming Gender Equality in the Infrastructure Sectors in Africa.” The Workshop will take place at the Hilton Hotel from March 22 to 24, 2011. The Workshop focuses on four key infrastructure sectors which are essential for growth and economic development: energy, irrigation, water and sanitation, and transport.
