10/07/2012 - Spurred by technological innovations, a revolution in ehealth is taking place in Africa. A large part of this revolution is due to the phenomenal growth in mobile phone usage in Africa – at 281 million users it is now the biggest market in the world. Internet use is still comparatively low, but is set to grow fast. With advanced access to information and services, the continent’s achievements in ehealth are likely to be dwarfed by a connected Africa.

12/06/2012 - On 19 May, the African Development Bank (AfDB) announced the launch of its eHealth award, which recognizes the best Authentic African ICT solutions in health. Since then, with the registration for the award now closed, 116 African health professionals, academics, NGOs and innovators have submitted their ideas and ongoing projects.

23/05/2012 - On May 10, a high level meeting chaired by President Donald Kaberuka, former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and Tim Berners-Lee, founder of the Web Foundation elicited a lively debate among 10 Ministers of Education and Science and Technology from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Uganda; who met with officials of Intel, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, HP, Adobe, and Microsoft among other leading technology companies in Africa. Other country governments represented were Benin, Burundi, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Mauritius, Nigeria and Rwanda.

17/05/2012 - The African Development Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a total of USD 13.95 million (UA 9.00 million ) through a grant mechanism on 16 May 2012. The grant will enable the African Community of Practice for Managing for Development Results (AfCoP) to mainstream Managing for Development Results (MfDR) into the policies and strategies of RMCs and RECs.

15/05/2012 - The conference was co-hosted by Anadach Group, TeleHealth Society of Kenya and the Kenyan government, and was sponsored by the World Bank Group/IFC, the African Development Bank (AfDB), ICME/Magellan, FVC/Polycom, JSI, Safaricom Business and Pfizer. It was one of the first multi-stakeholder events focusing on e-Health in Africa that took place on the continent. Their goal was to exchange ideas, discuss innovative solutions and create collaborations in e-Health.

Hon Gordon Brown, and renowned computer scientist, and founder of the World Wide Web Foundation, Sir Tim Berners-Lee will convene a high level meeting on Education and Technology entitled “Connecting Africa” at the 22nd World Economic Forum (WEF) on Africa on 10 May, 2012.
