01/07/2010 - The adverse impacts of the financial crisis that hit the world in 2008 became evident in Africa towards the end of the same year. Its severity and detrimental impact on investment and trade required urgent, collective countercyclical actions by the international financial community, using creative and pragmatic approaches that would support the recovery of trade flows as soon as possible. In particular, as many African commercial banks were experiencing severe liquidity constraints, the African Development Bank (AfDB) had an important role to play in helping the continent through the financial crisis.

18/06/2010 - The operating rules and procedures of the IRM encourage transparency. All our reports, including decisions made by the President or the Boards are published and posted on the Bank’s website (www.afdb.org/irm). When the IRM is mandated to monitor the implementation of findings and recommendations of compliance reviews and management’s action plans, the IRM monitoring reports are also posted on the website.

15/06/2010 - Mr. James Wahome, Lead Economist in the Fragile States Unit of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, has highlighted the institution's increasing support to fragile states since the unit was created. “The 209 Annual Report is clear in suggesting that addressing the difficult and diverse development challenges in fragile states has increasingly become a core business mandate of the Bank since 2008, when Board approved the establishment of the Fragile States Unit and the Fragile States Facility,” Mr Wahome said in an interview in Tunis.

28/05/2010 - Yes, the C-10 Deputies indeed had an informal side meeting on Thursday May 27 at the AfDB Annual Meeting. Being an informal meeting, one of the objectives was to provide an update on key developments regarding G-20 related activities since the Committee’s last meeting in February in Cape Town. The meeting created an avenue for discussions to build a strong and unified African voice in preparation for the upcoming G-20 Summit Meeting in Canada in June 2010. Economic issues were also discussed, especially those pertaining to prospects for Africa’s economic recovery and exit strategies from expansionary policies

28/05/2010 - Le Groupe de la BAD a commencé à décentraliser ses opérations depuis plus de 10 ans. Le bureau fait précisément partie des premiers bureaux extérieurs (BE) ouverts, au nombre de 27 à date. Cette décentralisation continue d’améliorer et de renforcer la visibilité de la BAD, ainsi que la coordination et l’harmonisation de ses activités avec les autres partenaires techniques et financiers.
