For Samuel Onwona, Resident Representative of the African Development Bank in Freetown, Bumbuna will bring down the cost of business in the country with a much cheaper, sustainable and reliable source of energy.

Les six premiers prêts ont été exclusivement réservés au financement des projets d’électrification rurale alors que les deux derniers sont destinés au financement partiel des projets d’assainissement et de restructuration des réseaux de distribution de l’électricité.

08/05/2008 - The Inga Hydro-electric Project has continued to inspire Africa, which badly needs energy to support its development plans. For some years now, the African and international energy community is talking about it, but nothing seems to be happening. Yet the ADB recently disbursed the amounts required to activate the project: 58 million dollars for the rehabilitation of Inga 1 and Inga 2 power plants, and more than 15 million dollars for a study to identify the optimal development scenario of the project. The figures are quite promising: an energy potential of up to 39 000 MW, which is enough to cover the long-term needs of some 800 million Africans.

14/03/2008 - Speaking about the declining value of the "greenback" against all other major international currencies, the AfDB Chief Economist said that the weakening dollar would impact countries differently depending on the weight of the dollar in foreign exchange denominated flows, especially buyers of US exports and competitors. Given that 85 per cent of the continent’s exports are outside the region, in particular with countries whose currencies have strengthened against the dollar, African exports denominated in US dollars present an opportunity for higher export earnings.
