Sunita Pitamber 01

07/04/2011 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) Fragile States Unit Head, Sunita Pitamber, has commended the Bank’s commitment to Fragile States through the Fragile State Facility, noting that President Kaberuka’s support to fragile states was “truly visionary”. In an interview, Mrs. Pitamber explained why she shared President Kaberuka’s optimism about the Bank’s role in Fragile and post conflict countries. She revealed that “the timely and positive support provided by the Fragile States Facility has enhanced the Bank’s “preferred partner” status and the “first point of business” for many of the countries.”

Soifiat Tadjiddine Alfeine

12/11/2010 - L’Union des Comores bénéficie de la Facilité des Etats fragiles (FEF) de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) pour appuyer ses efforts de reconstruction post-crise. Un des axes majeur de cette assistance est le renforcement des capacités. Pour Mme Soifiat Tadjiddine Alfeine, Commissaire Général au Plan, l’appui de la FEF a été d’une grande utilité pour son pays, en ce sens qu’il a permis aux Comores de finaliser le Document de Stratégie de Réduction de la Pauvreté, de renouer les relations avec les bailleurs, de s’engager dans le processus de l’Initiative en faveur des Pays Pauvres Très Endettés (PPTE) et d’accéder à plus de ressources.

Saleh Mahareb - Tchad

12/11/2010 - Dans le cadre du Pilier de Renforcement des capacités, la Facilité en faveur des Etats fragiles (FEF) de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD) appuie les efforts du gouvernement du Tchad en matière de santé. Elle lui a octroyé un don de 450,215.71 UC (environ 324 millions de FCFA) pour, entre autres activités, appuyer le processus d’élaboration de la politique nationale de la santé, réactualiser le plan triennal de formation continue du personnel et assurer la formation en psychopédagogie des enseignants.

15/06/2010 - Mr. James Wahome, Lead Economist in the Fragile States Unit of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, has highlighted the institution's increasing support to fragile states since the unit was created. “The 209 Annual Report is clear in suggesting that addressing the difficult and diverse development challenges in fragile states has increasingly become a core business mandate of the Bank since 2008, when Board approved the establishment of the Fragile States Unit and the Fragile States Facility,” Mr Wahome said in an interview in Tunis.

21/04/2010 - Fragile states have become a priority for development institutions, especially the African Development Bank. In March 2008 the Bank established a Fragile States Facility (FSF) as an institutional framework to deal in a comprehensive way with countries’ needs. For Ms. Margaret Kilo, Head of the Fragile Sates Unit, performance in addressing the challenges facing fragile states is linked directly to government’s ownership of FSF-operations and its willingness to work closely with partners, including the Bank. Also, talking about governance, she said it is a challenging issue to tackle, requiring long-term commitments.
